King Bird Sanctuary

Blooming crab-apple and other trees made for a colorful setting for photographing birds at the King Bird Sanctuary in Etna, NH this past weekend. Here is a slide show of the birds I was able to photograph: Wilson’s, Nashville, Black-and-White, Chestnut-sided, Common Yellowthroat, and Yellow-rumped Warblers, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Gray Catbird, House Wren, Eastern Bluebird, Chipping Sparrow, and Least Flycatcher.

I also spotted several Black-throated Green Warblers. There were three Broad-winged Hawk flyovers. Over a dozen Yellow-rumps were feeding high in the trees and numerous tree swallows were patrolling the airspace. The most noise by far was made by the house wrens.

This small but beautiful area was created by the Hanover Conservancy and the Hanover Conservation Commission with the help of volunteers and local donors who helped the town purchase this area in 2010.
