NEPAL IN PANORAMA

Preface and some viewing hints

I travelled to Nepal late October and early November in 2008 and 2009.  This trip overview describes the Oct. 25 to Nov. 16, 2009 trip but borrows three images from the previous trip.    There are 40 panoramas on 11 pages with links to the pages below and on each page.  Each panorama has at least 50 MP (50,000,000 pixels) so there is a reasonable amount of detail.  For those who care, the average image file size is 100 MB (losslessly compressed TIFF). But not all of this loads at the same time–detail is loaded for the part of the panorama you choose to explore.

All but two or three of the pans taken in Nepal were shot handheld.  I prefer to shoot pans with a tripod, but it would be in my duffel, not my backpack, most days.  In addition, since we kept moving when we trekked, the only real opportunities I had to use it were before breakfast or late in the afternoon.  The routine was to have our duffel bags fully packed before breakfast as the porters would take them from our rooms during our breakfast to get an early start.
When you see a panorama that you want to explore, zoom way in, pan around, or click on a thumbnail/snapshot and wait for the resolution to download.   You can double click to zoom way in and the left mouse to pan around. You can also use the + and – keys to zoom and the arrow keys to scroll. Please wait for the resolution to download.
