Milky Way in Motion

I got a new camera this year, a D500 — the long-awaited successor to the great D300s. It has a nice time-lapse movie capability. I am starting to experiment with this feature.  I have previously made a few time-lapse videos by shooting many frames and then rendering them into a video in Photoshop. Instead getting a time-lapse video straight out of the camera is nice.

I shot this 11 second video early this morning. It shows the movement of the Milky Way, some clouds, and some lights between 1:15 and 3:51 AM.  I cannot explain the red glow in the second half of this video — the camera was facing northwest.

By the way, I was back in bed by 1:30 AM. The camera did its own thing until the battery died.
